I have not been able to unpack any boxed items that I have purchased this is also happening to all my friends. Any ideas? Anyone else having this problem?

*raises hand* when I went to unpack the box, all it would give my inventory is an empty folder  hope this gets rectified soon |

Workaround:
Open your inventory, and make a folder to put the stuff from the box into.
Now right click the box, and select Open.
Drag each item, one at a time, from the contents list of the box to your inventory folder.
Did this today. It works.
You may be able to drag more than one item at a time. I didn't dare try...

This is a particularly annoying bug, and is most likely linked to whatever is causing most other forms of copying and pasting in Inventory to fail. I would imagine it will be a very high priority to fix this one. Pretty hard to shop or to create while this remains broken.
