I was searching though airraidsirens.com last night (I am a fan of emergency equipment, such as sirens) and suddenly had the idea of starting a Civil Defense group. The only problem, here, is that this position is "occupied" by Lindens. So, in that case, I had an idea: if I could create some sort of HTTP-based line of RL siren replicas (plus some new ones to match futuristic areas) and people would put them on their land if they wanted, we could use it as a sim-wide or, possibly, grid-wide siren system. Wouldn't this be cool! Of course, people would need to take heed and evacuate or take cover during an emergency, but that can be taken car of later. My question is: if you own/rent land or know someone that does so and the land is outdoors, would you be willing to put up a siren on your property? The sirens would be of different sizes, sounds, shapes, colors, and volumes so they would fit in with your atmosphere, and you would have a controller to your sirens (only your's, nobody elses) so that you could run tests. So... would you put a siren on your property, knowing that it is completely customizable and has a deactivation switch for times when you don't want it to sound?

No. These sirens are of selectable volume and the owner can disconnect them at his discretion. These sirens are to be used in *emergencies* only (except from Linden permission), and normally only a sim-wide alarm will be set off. In rare cases (grid-wide parties, grid crashes, or major rolling restarts) then the grid-wide alarm may be set off. Also, when the alarm system is completed, we will give controls to the Lindens (if they want them) and they will also be able to control the sirens. There will also be single and omni directional sirens so that the sound can be broadcasted in one or all directions. Omni directional are best for the middle of sims, and single directional are good for if your land is facing water or a sim border, in that case you would want single directional because they are louder because they only sound in a single direction. Also, it is best if you set the volume of your siren so that it cannot be heard outside of your land very much. The sirens use new SoundExtend technology that places small sounders every 2, 5, 8, or 10 meters, depending on the volume setting, that trigger the sound then delete themselves. Because of this sytem, the sirens may be heard on other's land (if the sound border box is not checked in the Land Edit menu). To reduce this, you can change the settings so that the SoundExtend sounders will not be rezzed that far away.
In other words, people IRL could complain to the city during WWII if a siren was disturbing them, and they would remove it and replace it at a different area. But, it would be best that the siren was audible from that location then not at all (if they were attacked and couldn't hear the siren, they would have to blame themselves for having the siren removed.) And anyways, these sirens are not blow-your-headphones-or-speakers loud, they are quite soft, no matter how close you are to the siren. Due to the purpose of SL sound level restraints and so that the sirens can be placed anywhere, the SoundExtend modules are made so that you could be either 10 or 100 meters away and the volume would be the same.
Even if you don't own land, please post your opinion on this...

Come on people, I need your input on this... For more information on air raid sirens, go to http://www.airraidsirens.com/I have already started a Thunderbolt 1000, and I will be making a few Federals later, and finally some Sentry Sirens.

Great Idea! I guess I'll be the first to say I'll put one on my property.
