Yes you heard me, as many of you know I live in Southern Florida also known as the 'Sunshine State' well there won't be much sunshine in a few hours. Yes there is a hurricane coming. It is still concidered a tropical storm but once is passes cuba and enters the water it will most likley beef up. Now as far as I can see right now, it looks as if, even if it gets far from us it will pass over me.
Okay just to be clear, I am not saying this for everyone to pitty me or worry and what not, I am posting this just to inform everyone that usually when hurricanes hit, the power goes out, and we're never the lucky ones that get it turned back on right away, usually we wait a few weeks. So if heaven forbid, that does happen and you have any questions, you can IM Kimberly Casanova and she will help you as much as she can. Also you can reach me by e-mail Sammehdee@tmail.com (That is my e-mail address to my cell phone) I don't usually get very good service on my cell after a storm but when I do I will be able to check.
Ok I think that's good for now. If you want to keep your eye on the storm:http://www.cnn.com/2006/WEATHER/08/28/ernesto/index.html have fun with that. I gotta run now though, the lines at gas stations are already hours long so I need to get some gas cans ready for our generator. Wish me luck!!

Aw thank you guys. I am gonna be unpluging my computer tonight at around 11-1 est because that's when it is expected to start getting close to me, last year it was kept in and when the power came back SL didn't work for months so let's all hope I don't lose power, but I am pretty certain I will so I shall be back in a week or so, maybe less, who knows!

What are you worried about it is a tropical storm and rather weak one at that. Just monitor your radio and TV and stop worrying. I am sure your local authorities will advise you what to do.
Forty Five mile an hour winds? That would not even slow us down on Okinawa. As of now it is not expected to regain hurricane status. Expect a lot of rain and make sure your flashlight and radio have fresh batteries. Above all stop worrying!

Good luck, be careful and remember....they get away with calling it the 'sunshine state' because most of the population is too damn old to remember how often it rains/tropical storms/hurricanes! Uh I'm not worried haha I have gone through the last two years of crappy hurricanes, this tropical storm wasn't at all what was worrying me. I live in an area that even if we have a little storm our power goes out. I was merley warning my friends and above all my coustomers that I would most likley be out of power for a while. I though I would let them know how to reach me, or who to reach if they had any questions that could not wait for my return.
Also, I posted this thread before they knew what would become of Ernesto. I posted this while it was still over Cuba. So I was just letting people know what could POSSIBLY happen. Jeez.
Thanks to everyone else who read this post for what it was.

Camie has been through some pretty rough hurricanes in the past, and I don't blame her one bit for being so prepared. Even the littlest of wind can do some pretty bad damage.. I remember when she was without power for a long period of time, and as much as it sucked for her.. it sucked for me too! So I wouldn't call it "worrying" I'd call it the smart thing to do. Why not give everyone a heads up just in case?

I live in Florida and if you lived here, you would understand why Cammie was warning people that she might not be back for awhile after the storm. It took two weeks for us to get power back after Hurricane Frances and then, we got hit with Hurricane Jeanne and had no power again for another 5 days. The rushed repair jobs the utility companies did to get everyone back on the power grid will probably fail again. I am "hurricane-weary", I really am. Thank God, Ernesto looks like he will be more of a nuisance than anything else. Good Luck, Cammie. I'll be watching the storm carefully from my perch up here in north central Florida. (I moved further inland after the last two hurricanes!)

Well I was part of the Hurricane Katrina relief force last year when Hurricane Rita impacted not far from our camp. We thought that things were bad before. We dropped the tents prior to the arrival of that storm and made other measures to prevent damage but it was not enough. After the storm I was sleeping in the back of a SUV, no toilets, little water and eating that yummy Louisiana cuisine from the brown plastic bag. We had it easy compared to the ones that went through Katrina. We back to "normal" within a few days; ha I was in Guam in 1997 when Super Typhoon Poca nailed it. It was not even covered by our American press. Nobody cared as if out of sight, out of mind. It had winds of over 200 miles per hour. My home of Okinawa is hit by an average of 3 typhoons a year. All I told you do is stop worrying but listen to the radio for instructions. Some of you are "hurricane-weary” after a few storms. The problem is the US Mainland does not force people to make proper buildings and force the utilities to have proper infrastructure. Everything is done on the cheap for max profits. I went through a "small" typhoon once in Okinawa at my home surfing the Internet during the storm. My steel reinforced concrete house maintained power and phone service during the storm, the American bases lost power and phone service for up to a week. Today a minor tropical storm is making its way up Florida bringing some well-needed rain. Be careful these things spout tornados. Again stop worrying I have seen more storms than most and am not "hurricane-weary"*grin*

But again, she was only being prepared .. She doesnt worry like that, trust me. She's been through some pretty rough storms and was only trying to give her friends and customers a heads up. That little tropical storm that she's so "worried" about will probably make her lose power.. Of course she'll still have food, she'll still have water, she'll still have a bed to sleep in, and a bathroom to use, but she didn't go and announce it on the news or anything.. she annouced on the SL forums to her friends and customers that she MIGHT lose power, which is most likely to happen, it doesn't take much there. She wasn't in no way whining or asking for people to pity her, nor was she acting like it's a hardcore storm she's got to go in to battle with, you know? What I'm pretty much trying to say is.. No power = no SL = no way of responding to her customers/ friends if they need to talk to her or have any questions. Lawl?

Again I wasn't worried. Grr I never once acted like I was scared or freaking out. I was letting people know what was going on incase they needed me. Excuse me for trying to be a good person.
Oh and just a little side note. Just because you've been through more than some people, does not give you the right to tell them how they should react! Just because the worst that could have happned this time for us was a power outage does not mean we shouldn't be worried. When power goes out people are known to do stupid things and take advantage of the fact that is't dark. Like I said, I have been here for the last two years of bad hurricane seasons. Just because we don't have to sleep in a suv does not mean that there aren't other things that could potentially be dangerous!
But like I said before, this thread was not started to whine and complain about how scared I was of a TROPICAL STORM, I'm no wuss (loss of better words). I was (like I seem to keep having to repeat) just letting the people I cared about know that if they didn't see me at least they knew why, and who to talk to if they had any questions. *grin*

You misunderstand me, being prepared for bad weather is cool and the right thing to do. In both Okinawa and Tokyo, We had a "go" bag of emergency supplies that could be quickly grabbed and carried with us. We still have that bag in Oklahoma today. Having extra non perishible food, bottled water, battery powered radios, flashlights, etc are a very good thing. Also having hurricane shutters on your home and down for expected bad weather is a good thing. I think that all of the press coverage a tropical depression is getting is getting carried away. This storm is so weak it looks like it will die over Flordia. However it is bringing with it much needed rain. Oh I understand your message. Hopefully the rest of this hurricane season will be as good as the start but be prepared for the worse.

Tropical storms breed tornatos and we need to be careful in heavy rains. As in the above message, be prepared, be safe but this excessive news coverage is getting out of hand.
