Opps...I'm posting as my alt! This is Lumiere Noir...and I guess that's one outed alt :-)

I think it's time I got my old building competiton group Edifice Rex back up and in the running!

Let's have a call for entries for a competition on a Tiki Theme!!! Build anything Tiki you like. Let's try to keep the prim count down to 256 prims per entry; the maximum for one linked set (although your entry does not have to be one big linked set). If you wind up going over 256 prims, talk with me, it might still be okay.

Tiki was a huge, popular art movement (I'm trying hard not to say a kitsch art movement but it's the truth) in the United States during the mid 1950s to the early 1960s. It was (very) loosely based on Polynesian art and culture. Tiki bars and Tiki clubs were all the rage across the U.S. in the form of furniture, clothing and household items...probably the most iconic Tiki image is that of a Tiki god...a totem pole travels to Easter Island sort of thing.

Google Tiki, and particularly the artist known as "Shag" if you feel the need to do research.

Tiki avatars are perfectly fine entries but you must be available for the judges to see you during the judging process (the deadline for judging will be 6:30p.m. SL Time Saturday July 22, 2006).

Edifice Rex members can vote in Edifice Rex forums located at:

http://ivorytowerlibrary.com/forums/ under Edifice Rex Competition Voting. There will be a poll in place once the deadline for placing entries has passed.

Since the world is so much larger than it was when we last held these contests, let's try something new and have voting categories:

Experienced builder's contest (you know who you are...you might have been here two weeks but you're already experienced and ready to go up against the 'older boys and girls').

Beginning builder's contest (you know who you are...you might have been here two years and never built a lick until now).

And an 'open to all' Tiki avatar contest that we'll begin at 5:00 p.m. SL time Saturday, July 22, 2006.

We're going to try to host your entries on Ivory Tower Library of Primitives grounds...as long as that holds out. If we have to place other entries on other lands, I'll make provisions at that time.

Again...I haven't done one of these in two years, the world has changed a lot in that time and this is a bit of a trial balloon, because I'd like to start doing this regularly again.

Prizes! Prizes? Defiantly there will be prizes! Trophies and stuff like that. I'm going to be casting around this week to see what I can offer, so more on this in a bit! Historically, these have been very tough competitions, and the prizes have been coveted and well...firecely contested in IMs at times! Which is why I'm glad it's the body of Edifice Rex that votes on them instead of just little 'ol me picking them out.

In accordance with Edifice Rex practice, Entries are due the day before judging so that our European and Asian members will have time to judge entries at their comfort and leisure. So call for entries is now and you may begin bringing me entries anytime until the deadline. Since they are to be housed on Ivory Tower land they'll need to belong to me, I'm afraid. Be sure that they are no copy/no mod/ yes transfer so that I can return them to you and that you will be certain that I am not retaining your work to perform virgin sacrifices on (also a regular event on Ivory Tower land). Deadline for entries is:

Friday, July 21, 2006 at midnight SL time entry deadline

Saturday, July 22, 2006 5:30 p.m. SL Time is the 'live' avatar judging

Saturday, July 22, 2006 6:30p.m. SL Time is the judging deadline

You don't have to be in Edifice Rex to enter this contest, but only Edifice Rex members can vote on the winners.

It's okay if you didn't make your item for this contest...but the competition might have already seen it.

It's okay if you want to work in teams for this. It's okay for the objects to be scripted and to emit particles and sounds within reason (I have to live in Natoma too...and I don't want to have to go insane!)

Yay Edifice Rex :)

Besides, we would've figured out it was your alt anyways - everyone knows you've got a thing for pretty asian girls ;)

I found it strange this thread is without images. ;)

So... a little more visual:

I'm excited to see the return of this.

Lumiere Noir, you are a legend!
