Skinhead was a neighbor when I had property on Bora. He was a considerate, good neighbor. Who cares what his name is? His behavior proves what and who he is!
There are many SL residents with questionable names, who have not been asked to change their names.
In real life I don't make up my mind about someone because of their name, ethnicity, etc... I let them show what kind of person they are. Why can't SL be the same?
You're tossing out a creative, helpful, good person. That doesn't make sense.

Its due to the fact the name can be taken offensively. Annd in a virtual world the policy is kind of out there. There are some questionable names out there sure but the question is does LL really know about them people fall thru the cracks sometimes considering there are over 200,000 accounts for SL. There may be some questionable names but the skinhead groups that portray violence often do it towards a set group of people and that is where the problem comes into play.

They could of went about asking him to change his name differently actually talking to him first. Thats the only real issue i run into. Ask him to change his name then get rid of him and if he doesnt comply to bad they asked him to. But they kicked him out then asked him to change name. The name is belitteling and quite offensive to some people. While I do think things could of been gone about differently i feel it was right to ask for a name change. Skinhead is still in SL under a different name now.

There's no question that "skinhead" is not a term universally associated with racism. We all know that there are mundane meanings of "skinhead." Which includes "bald."

The true issue regarding the name is that there is a large section of the international community that does have a problem with it due to one of its connotations referring to racists.

Had I been Linden Labs faced with the existence of that name, I would do the same ... have him change it.

Given the choice between a name that has some mundane meanings and some dangerous meanings, and a name that is more uniformly recongnized as ordinary, I would prefer that the person go with the latter.

Call it erring on the side of caution.

That's the way I always make my names for MMOGs. Make it neutral. Use a name that is recognized to be normal.

Just to cite a contrast. Adolf Hitler is unquestionably a bad name to pick. But there's nothing wrong with Adolf, which is an ordinary name. No one would take offence at the name Adolf by itself despite the infamous namesake.

"Skinhead" however does not share that stature. Call it a loaded name even if you don't intend it to be.

Skinhead probably had problems communicating with LL because his english communication skills were not very good apparently. But things ended well and he has a name that is actually pretty nice.
