Hi guys -

Its a bit awkward posting this - but I'll just come right out and say it: The Shelter could use some help with our Tier.

Currently, our land tier is paid for in the following way:

2/3rds come from Tier donations from generous folk

1/3rd is an incredible "Rented Tier" arrangement setup for us by Jon Rolland, at a price nearly at cost - way lower than what we'd pay Linden Labs. (Thanks, Jon!) :)

The arrangement was awesome, because as tier donations ebbed and flowed, Jon was incredibly flexible in adjusting our 'bill' (paid in Lindens) upwards or downwards, depending on what we needed that month.

Unfortunately, Jon is unable to continue this arrangement after the end of this month due to some tier realignment on his side. In light of this, we now have 10.5km of tier we now need to come up with.

How can you help?

If you or someone you know holds a Large land tier, and would be willing to 'Rent' us 10.5km of tier similar to how we did with Jon, that would be ideal.

Alternatively, if you just have spare tier that's sitting around doing nothing, donating even the smallest amount to the "Sheltered Infrastructure" group would be most helpful. If we can come up with 10.5km in donations, or even a portion of that - it will help us make our remaining donation funds stretch that much farther, rather than paying LL or a Tier Landlord.

If you think you can help us out, please send me a forum PM, or an IM in game, and I'll send you a group invite.

And - as always... Thanks everyone for your support of us over the last 2 years... without which, we wouldn't be here :)

Thanks all who responded - my god that was fast... we're set :)

I'm honored to be part of such a generous community - and have such great friends.

Thanks again, guys :)

What the hell is tier?

i know, I can go rad about it somewhere. I've heard the term before, and I have some vague idea it is sort of like property tax.

Can someone give the Short Overview of Tier, or point me to good references?

thanks.

Basically it can be described as a monthly "Hosting Fee"

Just like if you have a website you pay the host provider for space.

The more space you want, the more you pay.

Since Land in SecondLife is basically space on a server, it's very similar :)

Owning land is just your way of being able to permanently rez objects in the sim.

If you want to be able to rez more objects, you need to buy more land, and pay more tier.

Hope I kept that simple enough :)
