You've heard the buzz and rumor, and now we can say - It's true!
The Infinite Mind, public radio’s most honored and most listened-to health and science show, is opening a virtual world headquarters and broadcast facility in Second Life.
Opening events for the new virtual world headquarters include a series of live tapings, hosted by acclaimed broadcast journalist and long-time contributor to The Infinite Mind John Hockenberry. Guests will include visionary singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega, who will be the first major recording artist to ever perform live in Second Life avatar form; best-selling author Kurt Vonnegut; futurist Howard Rheingold; and other notable scholars, researchers and literary figures. Other scheduled guests include MIT scholar Sherry Turkle and Philip Rosedale.
Features of the sim build include a virtual broadcast center, library with audio and visual archives, a museum, outdoor amphitheater, lecture hall, and boutique.
The sim was built by Infinite Vision Media's lead architect, Shukran Fahid and scripted by Jeanette Hailey. The project manager is Boliver Oddfellow, assistant project manager, BushidoBrown Hightower.
Other contributors include Ravenelle Zugzwang, who created Infinity Park and the museum, and Munchflower Zaius, avatar creator for Bill Lichtenstein and all notable guests.

(The interviews will be done in a live voice stream, however!!) They will also be controlling their own avatars. This was briefly discussed in the interview with Hamlet, as we know that this was something everyone would want to know! _____________________

As a long-time NPR supporter and listener, I'm excited to hear that NPR is getting in on the SL action. However, in reading through some of the information you've posted, Jeanette, I can't seem to find actual dates and times for any of the live tapings or appearances by the people you've mentioned (Vonnegut, Vega, et al). Is this just because I haven't yet had more than one cup of coffee this morning, or are the press releases being vague because no dates are currently set?
Please post dates to this announcement so I can mark my calendar in hopes of attending, or at least listening to a live broadcast! Thank you. _____________________

LCM produces the show The Infinite Mind. As for the dates and times, some are set and some are still tentative. Ah-hah! No wonder I'd never heard of the show The Infinite Mind, no public radio stations in my area (Portland, OR metro region) carry it. Actually, Beryl, this is a good point, thank you for reminding me.
