Griefer/Minor Database

Starting up a database, who wants to help contribute?

Greifers - only those that outright attack, scripted weapons, bombs, or similar things.

Minors - The young ones the slip onto the grid.



If you get griefed or know of a Minor, fill out this little form and chuck it in my Inventory, and i'll add it ti the list of Griefers/Minors.

GRIEFER/MINOR NAME: Their AV name.

LOCATION: parcel name/sim name/coordinates

ACTIONS: What happened, someone attacked you,, a kid divulged his/her age, etc.

And please send only things that have occurred to you, not what happened to a friend of a friend that one time

Do you have a control in place against groups singling out individuals who are griefers when in fact they are not, and fabricating incidents just to get that person on the list?

Name of Subject: Stealthfish (cannot remember last name, starts with D, only one in system)

Date: Cannot remember exact date right now, since I cannot get onto SL to check notecard.. think it was July 12,2006)

Occurence: After being told he could not join our group, he proceeded to fly just outside our home, peeking into the windows, and basically being a nuisance. We asked him repeatedly to leave, then finally banned him from the property. We were remodeling our home, when all of a sudden, 1/3 of the residence vanished... none of us had it in our inventory. I asked Mourne (my other half, and the owner of the residence and land) to check things out. He found 4 scripts with Stealthfish's name on them. In his profile, he does state repeatedly that he is a scriptor.
When I IM'd him to tell him exactly what I was thinking about him at that moment, he was quite happy to say that he did it. Sadly, according to TOS, I cannot use said IM conversation against him.

He lives in Germany, this much I know. He was in the Dreamland group, but the minute I said I was going to IM the group owner to warn him of this person(which I did, who did not know whom I was speaking of), he left that group.

I have had him banned from our 3 lands, as well as surrounding lands, a number of other groups like ours, and I am spreading the news. We lost almost 8K, because we had to re-buy the castle, then 2 days of vast labor, remodeling it.

Hopefully this helps others from going through this. PLEASE protect your hard work from this guy.

Lindens wont listen to resident demands to bring back age verification. Accounts can be created just as fast as a griefers comp will move. I say we go back to protesting like we did thier b-day party. Lindens still wont listen but at least us protesters clogging thier sims during events will make them feel a small part of the grief that us land and business owners feel.

Cool. A new way for malicious assholes to grief people who arent actually griefers by fabricating some story and getting them on a blacklist.

I DO hope that most people see this list for what it is and have nothing to do with it whatsoever.

Much like the 'copycat/ripoff' designer shitlist that's run by a resident who constantly goes out of her way to baselessly accuse (mostly new) designers of ripping off other people purely because SHE doesn't think they could actually be that good. Fortunately, she is largely ignored.

Because it's a bad idea, and it's irresponsible.

I reported stealthfish through AR for leaving scripted "drohnes" around me and my wife. He said he had no idea that it was wrong, but a friend got him to do it.

I am getting around the problem of verification by making my own personal list. All the people on it are people who I was personally grieved by or I personally saw act like an insensitive idiot. I am a very polite and understanding person so you can be assured that every single person that is on my list is a bona fide actual jerk.

The list is really just for me but I have only been keeping it for a week and I have about 20 names already. Sometimes I meet so many I can't write tehm all down fast enough!

Anyone interested in the idea of sharing a list of griefers, please send myself or Travis Lambert a forum IM.
I shouldn't really say much more than this due to security concerns, but suffice it to say other people have had this idea and its realisation is a lot closer to reality than you might think.

Kris is right. Having a global griefer list that anyone can add to like dropping a note in a suggestion box, and results in that individual being banned everywhere has fatal flaws attached to it. Namely: Abuse of the abuse list, and zero accountability.

I'm also not too fond of the idea of some 'central comittee' managing a global ban list. That's just drama waiting to happen, and gives a few folks an enormous amount of power. Its pretty much the opposite end of the extreme to the 'griefer suggestion box'.

However - there is some merit to like-minded communities sharing their ban lists together, providing the control over ban status was decentralized rather than centralized. Essentially, establishing 1-way trust relationships between two or more locations.

This could also mean that sites that are indeed responsible with their ban lists are more trusted - thus giving their bans more teeth. Those who chose to ban on a trivial basis, could find their trust level trivial as well.

Just some random musings

I like the idea of a global griefer database and ban system. But I agree, Travis, that authority is a big issue. These would be my goals:

1) There should ideally be only one griefer database, and one worldwide ban system.

2) Technologically, it should be owned and maintained by people who are well-established in the community.

3) Permission to add and remove people should be given to cooperating landowners.

4) Any disagreement between the landowners should result in a local ban, but not a global ban.

This is just off the top of my head. I could be way off base here.
