with the coming of a new OS geared more toward gaming and 3D will this bring any changes to Second life performance wise?

Windows Vista support

We are certainly planning to support the Windows Vista operating system in the future. However, because of the myriad changes to graphics in that OS, code changes will be required before we can offer that support.
We will offer alpha and beta testing versions of Second Life for Windows Vista when they become available later this year.
