Hey everyone, I have been having some weird problems since the new patches... The most recent, and the second most recent patches have caused some bad side effects.

1. When editing an object 75% of the time I have to "edit" the object twice before it will highlight and let me edit it... Before hand I only had to click "edit" once on the pie menu.

2. Teleporting from place to place is now giving me "You need to log back in before teleporting is possible" errors or something worded really similar... I seem to get that error quite often and once I get it once, I am basically forced to restart SL before I am able to teleport anywhere at all.

3. Insanely high packet loss since the patch before last Wednesday. I used to get VERY LITTLE if ANY at all packet loss before the patch. Now I am noticing myself with an average 1.5% - 3% packet loss... I know its not my ISP because nothing has changed, and my friend who lives in the same area has also noticed this problem.

4. A slightly off topic question, but it has been bugging me none the less. I heard something about Linden Labs closing down these forums? Why? and When? Will we still have this question and answer forum to use? Are ALL the forums going away?

Torley, I know your probably the one to answer this since you are GOD of everything that is anything. So hopefully you could answer these to the best of your ability to let me know what may be causing some of them.

Hey Miles, that's so nice of you to say! Really I'm not a god tho... I'm a Watermelon Spirit in service of the community and I like to connect people, places, things together. *blushing*

So let's see:

(1) Sounds like a bug but I'd need a more solid repro; I wonder if it's related to (3); I know that packet loss can severely slow down editing operations (I've been in such conditions).

(2) Hmmm--this may be linked to (1) and (3) too... sounds like a very flakey network connection. Try this: log into SL and try going around to different places, spend a session lasting about an hour. And then check Help menu > About Second Life and see what it says next to "Packets Lost:", cumulatively. You'll also want to do this test:

http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=Experiencing%20packet%20loss

(3) Is your friend also on Second Life?

(4) Some forums will be closed, some will remain open. It's not a binary blanket, tho. See:

http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/08/10/forums-take-a-new-turn/

for whys and whens. And no, not all of them are going away. A lot of it has to do with adapting to change and growing because we've really expanded.

The prob with Second Life Answers is I get so many people asking me questions. This is in addition to emails, IMs, other websites, etc. I love to help but it's clear to me that my issue tracker queue is growing unmanageable and unscalable unless I do something about it. I love having fellow Lindens "guest star" in here, but there is so much for all of us to do and work on so it's clear we'll need better ways of sharing info to keep everyone up-to-speed.

Hence, the one-to-many communication on the Official Linden Blog, which lets us keep a personal touch, and of course I'm still active in many areas of Second Life.

So, Miles, where I'd go from here re: your packet loss problems is contact Support. I'm not support but you can CC: me if you send an email with further details because I'm curious too.

Hope things get better soon. :)
