I don't know where else to post this so I am posting it here. Is LL thinking about doing away with the Welcome Areas? I sure hope so since they get worse everyday. Yesterday it was solid Mario particles and today it is constant Santa spam. If someone was there to attempt to help new residents they would be lost in the spam/griefer babble that seems to go on non-stop.

I remember in the olden days when new citizens were welcomed and actually helped by older residents but I have failed to see this happening for over a year now. Now all we see is grade school type griefing. This makes me very sad as some of my fondest Second Life memories are of the old Welcome Area.

I met some of my oldest friends at the old Welcome Area and received more help than I can even say even if Jill Linden had to remind to wear underwear when I was dancing on a bench. Oh yeah and to put my chainsaw away.

Anyway I see no useful purpose for the new Welcome Areas at all except maybe to drive new people away from Second Life. Have you thought of contracting them out to private citizens, dispersing new people to other places or just forgetting the entire thing?

Thanks. :D

As SL grows and new memberships increase, having just a couple of entry points for new folks to hang makes less sense. One of the reasons the Welcome Areas were so welcoming back in the day was that they were populated by smallish groups of people, many of whom hung around to say hi to new people and offer help. Distributing the new residents across a larger group of spaces, in different areas, would be a good solution. We've discussed it before and continue to think about ways to best introduce new people to the mainland.

I think this would be a good topic for a focused discussion inworld...I'll propose that to the community team :)
