COPY AND WEAR clarification

Maybe I don't understand the functionality that COPY AND WEAR is supposed to provide. Maybe I expect it to do something that it is not meant to do or can't do.

Here is what I expect COPY AND WEAR to do: When I OPEN an item, I see a button labeled COPY AND WEAR, at the bottom of the item's CONTENTS box. I highlight (click) an item from the box and then click COPY AND WEAR. I expect the highlighted item(s) to be a) copied to INVENTORY and b) WORN or attached on my avatar.

That doesn't sound unreasonable. To me, that's the functionality that the majority of users would expect.

Here's what happens instead. First, ALL items in the CONTENTS box are copied to INVENTORY. Highlighting or not highlighting items has no effect. Highlighting is allowed, then completely ignored.

I could understand a different outcome taking place if no items were highlighted. In that case, perhaps all items should be copied. Preferably, a question dialog would appear, asking if I really wanted to copy all the items to INVENTORY.

But highlighting is completely ignored. All items are copied, regardless.

Secondly, objects are COPIED but not automatically WORN. Items are copied to the CLOTHES folder and have to be worn or attached manually. That is not COPY AND WEAR. Thats's COPY TO INVENTORY (clothes folder). The OPEN dialog already has a COPY TO INVENTORY button. How about saving the extra button and removing COPY AND WEAR if it does the SAME thing as COPY TO INVENTORY? Or you could rename COPY AND WEAR to COPY AND WEAR IT YOUSELF BY SELECTING IT FROM INVENTORY AND CHOOSING WEAR.

I've heard the argument that WEARING is different from ATTACHING. Well, I don't buy that one. I've tested COPY AND WEAR with objects and clothes. The function makes no distinction. Both are COPIED to a sub-folder in CLOTHES and must be manually worn or attached. The function fails for both.

Further proof against the "wearing is not attaching" argument is the fact that objects can be WORN with a right-click from INVENTORY. This causes objects to be attached at the last remembered attachment point. This is as it should be. For objects, WEAR is a shortcut to attaching the object at its last remembered attachment point.

Am I wrong in wanting COPY AND WEAR to perform as a reasonable person would expect it to? Why is it listed as "fixed" in every version, but the functionality never changes?

You're right, it should copy the items to your Inventory and to your avatar - but it's not working at the moment. It is a known bug, currently being worked on and I'm sorry that you've experienced it.

In the future, you might want to check our Known Issueslist and learn more about bug
