Okay, for srsly guys, we have to talk.
Your new suggestion to limit the ability of users to program LSL is so bogus I can't even think straight.
So please, explain to me what legitimate reason you have for the determination to keep registration open and free if you intend to restrict the rights and access of all new users until they become verified.
Seriously. What's the point?
You want to use group land tools to have people block unverifieds from their land. You want to limit the amount of USD and L$ they can utilize. You want to block their ability to script. All of which can be easily vanished if someone were to verify their account.
Blocking the ability to script is A BAD IDEA. To quote Gabe Lippmann, barriers prevent casual users from becoming serious ones. I know many people who would not have stuck around if they couldn't have, moments upon leaving Orientation Island, wandered around the welcome area and have someone show them how to drop a script into a prim and make it talk. You're destroying content creators' sales with these arbitrary fence limitations, you're destroying user's experiences with the war you're waging. Any idiot can see this is a retaliation by those people Philip confidently patted himself on the back for banning at the Town Hall meeting. Guess what? They're back! None of us are surprised that they are, are you?
Honestly. If you're going through all of this trouble wouldn't Occam's razor state that the simpler solution would be to just close registration back to the way it was before? I don't get you people. Why do the users have no trouble with these ideas but "management" can't figure anything out?
CLOSE REGISTRATION. STOP WORRYING ABOUT THE INFLATION OF YOUR NUMBERS UNLESS YOU WANT 75% OF THOSE USERS TO BE PEOPLE WHO QUIT OUT OF FRUSTRATION AND HAVEN'T LOGGED BACK IN AGAIN.
Instead, how about you create a limited functionality trial account like they have in World of Warcraft or Everquest. These trial accounts have limited ability to script, cannot join groups, cannot give items, etc. Companies who need to bring people in briefly for a press conference can register these trial users and then be done with them. Users who want a taste can register, float around for a while, and then become verified.
If the net result is that you're trying to create a caste of second-class citizens I'm not okay with that. Create a trial account that doesn't require any payment information at all and then at the end of that trial require users to verify themselves somehow.
Stop wasting time on creating restrictive tools when there are serious issues that need to be dealt with IMMEDIATELY.
