== Torley writes in relationship to a question on zoning, I.E. limiting clubs ==
We currently leave this up to Residents.
==

Which is utter bilge - because you don't give Residents on the mainland any tools with which to enforce the decisions they make. I can't decide that a club can't build next to my home and enforce it. I could own all but 16m^2 of a mainlaind sim - and by your policies the owner of the remaining 16m^2 can do whatever the heck he wants, even though his investment is a fraction of mine.

Furthermore, Second Life 1.12 will include Covenants, which are a way for Estate Owners and Managers to say "This is what's allowed on this land"
==

So what? The OP's question was about *mainland sims*. ('Estate' is just a code word for 'private island'. Nobody on the mainland is an 'Estate Owner' or 'Estate Manager' ) Furthermore - it's a totally meaningless answer in the context of the original question which was about *neighbors*, not about controlling what can be done on land you control.

I've seen a lot of evasive and pointless answers from you Torley - but this "oh it's all so sunny and cool tools are coming" response has to one of the most evasive, off point, and utterly unrelated responses I've seen yet. For all the applicability to the OP's question - you might as well have used a random technobabble generator.

I really do appreciate the constructive answers you ferret out - and they are not a few, but your 'dishonest answer' to this one really got my goat.

That was certainly not my intent, Elde--and I would greatly appreciate it if you asked for my intentions in the future, instead of assuming. Does us both good. :)

The issue of zoning has had an extensive history far before I was ever in Second Life. There's a lot that's already been said that can be searched for on the forums. What I mention doesn't supplant it in any way--it's in addition, for I am an AND person, not an OR person. And I won't be redundant by repeating what is already well-known; this merely insults the intelligence of those who are far better acquainted with the issues at hand than I am.

And, also, while not *directly* applicable, I like to relate connections and point out alternatives and possibilities of what LL will provide. As opposed to, "OMGWTFBBQ??? HELL NO IT WON'T BE DONE!!!". As farfetched as they may seem to some, there's a lot of interrelation in Second Life.

So specifically, we're looking at better ways for mainland owners to acquire adjacent parcels of land. This is actually closer to a few things emerging from private islands than some may think--the thoughtlines are there, but they're lateral.

Is it important for us to be able to assist in building community on the mainland via geographical proximity? Yes. At the same time, the mainland retains a sense of creative chaos which is discussed a lot about. Different experiences.

It's important to give Residents hope. Even if it won't arrive today, if I discouraged others, I'd only make things worse for all. But at the same time, I'm optimistically realistic not to make promises that don't come true.

And as always, as new goodies do arrive, I make it clear to those who will benefit, so they may reap the joy. Covenants are a clear coming-soon, and in reaction to that, we'll see some great ideas for better mainland development: I know I've already heard from numerous who want some mainland equivalent to 'em!

Emergence.

It's all about the connections.

Today is a sunny day and I am happy to be here.
