Future Official Clients and the Permissions System

Hi, I have a number of questions, they ask the same thing but in different ways:

Will the existing permissions system (or a modified one that does the same work, but better) continue to be supported in all future Linden Lab created Second Life clients?

Will Linden Lab introduce any features into the client that the company distributes, that would allow users to circumvent the existing permissions system?

If a feature that circumvents the existing permissions system was introduced into a third party client, or if this feature was submitted for inclusion in the Linden Lab produced client, would it be automatically be ruled out?

I understand that it is now possible for someone to modify the client to copy objects and textures that are 'protected' by the permissions system, but will the permissions system remain in place regardless, and continue to be supported by Linden Lab releases of the client?

Yes, it's something we realize the value of and we are working to make everyone permissions more secure.

"Will Linden Lab introduce any features into the client that the company distributes, that would allow users to circumvent the existing permissions system?"

Not that I'm aware of, no.

"If a feature that circumvents the existing permissions system was introduced into a third party client, or if this feature was submitted for inclusion in the Linden Lab produced client, would it be automatically be ruled out?"

Possibly, it really depends on the change, we'd have to discuss it when we saw it.

"I understand that it is now possible for someone to modify the client to copy objects and textures that are 'protected' by the permissions system, but will the permissions system remain in place regardless, and continue to be supported by Linden Lab releases of the client?"

The answer to this is much like the answer to your first question. Permissions take time, protection takes time. It's something that's on the table.

Best,
