Bump Mapping

Why does SL not support uploading custom bump map textures? The list of bump mapping options on prims is only useful in some situations. Allowing custom bumpmaps would open a whole new world.

On top of that... allow bump mapping on AVs with custom uploaded textures. I can see a whole new wave of fashion... like happened with flexi.

It seems the engine already supports bumpmapping... How hard could it be to allow uploading of our own maps?

Hi Bane, this is an early (and good!) question I asked myself. I wanted to do more background research because I recall seeing at least one Feature Voting Tool proposal on it before; unfortunately the FTV search appears to be broken. I'll report that, and hopefully when it works again, you can vote for one of the related suggestions.

As for "how hard", I'm also going to forward your message for graphics developer expertise. :)

[UPDATE] I've heard back. This is of course something that's wanted, and it will be gotten to after significant work on improving Second Life's framerate happens first. (Also keeping in mind bumpmapping lowers Viewer FPS too.) Once that's better, it opens up room for more eyecandy. :)
