Voteing Stations?

Hi,

Can I get a definative Linden answer about Voteing Stations. I have been told that they are legacy items and have no effect at all except emailing the number of votes to the owner.

However, I have spotted them in most the top 20 places in world and the "myth" is that the votes count in some way to your over all traffic rateing.

Is this correct? If I place a voteing station on my land and get lots of votes will I see an increase in my traffic (if all other factors remain the same)?

Thanks,

Anne.

The voteing booths are legacy from before the time of Traffic.

In days of old players would place Voting Booths on their land. All visitors would click the booth if they liked the place, or just because they were visiting. Players would receive L$ daily based on how many votes received the previous day. This was eventually exploited by the emergence of 'vote farms' - places with no actual content but anywhere from 20 - 50 votebooths for different people. These people would then visit the 'farm' and vote for everyone there.

Vote booths were discontinued before dwell (which later became traffic). They do still send an IM every day to the owner if any votes are received, but the message sent to our servers go straight to the trash (/dev/null). They have no bearing on traffic at all.

Unless of course people are visiting and staying on your land because you have a vote booth. Then it might have an indirect effect.
