The propriety of Linden employees posting in resident operated forums was recently questioned in a resident operated forum, following a post by a Linden employee.
What, if any, is the offical policy on Linden staff members posting in resident operated forums?

Sue, we have a policy on safe communication. Specifically, we discourage posting by Linden employees on Resident-operated forums, for reasons including: (1) abuse disputes, since dealings can get very messy when we can't guarantee the veracity of things like chat logs posted on other forums nor can we pursue them as any legitimate evidence; and (2) since the word of a Linden is taken officially, we can't guarantee "Linden posts" made are authentic, genuine, and actually reflect our company values. We have made exceptions in the past to post when there's an emergency and our own networks might be down, but this is the *general* policy. (Yeah I know that sounds kind of dry but it's serious.) This also means that whenever you see a posting by a Linden somewhere else, consider it *personal opinion* and *not* the official Linden Lab stance on an issue. Of course any personal opinions in conflict with the company can cause confusion, hence why we discourage it in the first place. It isn't black|white but it does advise being prudent and avoiding misrepresentation.
