Hi -

Phillip was only able to get through a portion of the questions for the townhall. At the end, Jeska reccomended that if there were additional questions that couldn't be attended to, to post them here at the Linden Answers forum.

So, here I am :)

My question:

Mainland Land tools such as those to delegate land permissions, and to proactively prevent grief and lag were discussed in the Summer of '05 as being scheduled to be released in the First Quarter of 2006. Check: Proposition 244.

1Q '06 is just about done, and so far we've seen little or no improvement in our toolset for those of us that reside on the Mainland.

I understand completely that the Linden strategy dictates that Islands/Estates receive these tools first. However, it feels at times like the Mainland is a 'redheaded stepchild', where new features are perpetually in the future.

What is the status on these (and other) tools for the Mainland, and can you throw us some warm fuzzies that you haven't forgotton about us?

Thanks! :)

No, we haven't forgotten about you! The challenge on the mainland is that we need to be able to provide controls on a parcel level, whereas on the estates we can do it by sim. So we have some choices to think about. Off the top of my head, here are some of the questions we have to consider:

- how do we reconcile the right to pass with a desire to allow bans to reach hundreds of meters into the air
- how do we (should we) create the ability to assign covenants to a specific parcel which stay with that parcel through a sale
- what mechanisms need to be in place to allow neighbors to come together to agree on region-wide covenants
- should there be limitations imposed by Linden Lab, as 'benevolent dictator', to the types of covenants associated with parcels/regions on the mainland

I know there are many, many more questions and even more opinions about these matters. Once the first phase of group changes is released in the next month or so we'll turn our attention answering these questions. If you have ideas you want to propose feel free to shoot them to me, or post them for discussion in the Land and Economy forum. I'd like to get in-world discussion going also, possibly as part of the community roundtable meetings and/or a town hall (or several). :)
