Land Prices are outrageous...does LL have plans to help the situation?

LL has been taking great steps to keep the lindex stabilized but another area seems to have slipped by and is way out of control. Land prices.

I recently searched for a nice 512 plot and the CHEAPEST I could find was about $9000L and it wasn't even a nice plot, it was land-locked, oddly shaped, and surrounded by other plots the same with HUGE forsale signs surrounding it. This is an outrageous price, approx. $32 US for a 512 plot of land...that's about 3.5 prims per $1 us. And there were only about 5 at that price, the average for a 512 was about 13,000. 2 years ago I bought 4000sqm for the same price and that was a pretty typical price. I know inflation is part of the game but that seems a bit much.

Does LL have any plans to help bring land prices down to a more reasonable amount? Do you consider these prices to be reasonable for all players to pay? Is your policy to stay out of it?

You didn't stay out of the lindex, so why stay out of the land market? It is as much a part of the economy as the value of the $L.

Just wondering. I have wanted to move to a new location for a while but I suppose for now I'm stuck because I will not pay these outrageous prices for land...

just as an idea that I've seen before, the reason for the first land exploit is that people can immediately resell it. Why not make first land sales final for a period of time, say a month...

Hi Musicteacher,

We feel that a free market is the best way to allow Second Life to grow and evolve successfully. While we do work to stabilize the L$ economy, that is primarily done through changes in L$ sinks and sources. We don't set the exchange rate.

If land prices are too high, then folks like yourself will simply refuse to buy land from those Residents. This will cause sellers to adjust their rates to something that buyers will ultimately accept.

Take care,
