HELP-Cannot open new version of SL

I went to log into SL after maintenance for updates were finished and got the download for the update which i downloaded then found out before i attempted to log in from a friend that SL was still down so i waited until now, 7:00PM SL time to try to log back in, I attempted to open SL and am not able to see it maximized on my desktop at this point. It was fine before the upgrade and now I cannot even open it up even after clearing the cache, temp internet files, history and rebooting. Any suggestions as to how this can be fixed? Another version of the new update available on a clickable link for others who might have the same problem as well? Thank you for any help you can give me.
