Failed to Rez objects

A friend of mine (who cannot post on this forum) had a collar worth $L600. She went to rez the collar on the ground, it disappeared from her inventory, but the object never rezzed before her. The collar was No Copy. Her question is, "Is there a way to recover this item...and if not, is there a way to prevent future occurances of this situation?" I, personally, have heard several instance if this happening throughout this morning and last evening after the update. If it was caused by the issues involved with the update, perhaps a warning not to rez objects in world would have been warrented until the issue was settled...maybe even a MOTD message.
