I read through the community standards but couldn't really find anything that took a stand on it one way or the other.

In recent weeks it's become more and more frequent to get notecards advertising events, landmarks to new clubs, teleport requests with the "Join me in" replaced with a rather blatant attempt to entice people to accept it ("free this or that";), etc all from random people I've never had any kind of contact with.
I should add that in nearly all cases I wasn't in any crowded place. I can understand it if someone would do that at a welcome center, but I'm either at home, with a friend at their house, building up in the sky, or simply standing dealing with IM somewhere out of the way so it really seems like misuse of the search feature.

Because of the increasing frequency I'll always drop an IM back with a "sorry?" in order to find out whether it was merely an accident (lots of other Kitties out there :)) or really deliberately random. So far not a single one has been accidental, and when I do call out that they're spamming it's met with an inevitable "It's not spam because....".

Did I miss LL's stand on whether this is acceptable or not somewhere? If not, would it be possible to define one one way or the other?

Hello Kitty, and sorry to hear of the unpleasant experiences. From what you're telling me, yes, this does sound like what we'd consider spam. Unsolicited mass advertising is NOT allowed, see our Community Standards, #6. If you're persistently bothered, you can use Help menu > Report Abuse with the pertinent details, including copy of the spam, so it can be investigated.
