Question about last names...

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but this is my first post. ^_^;

When you sign up to be partnered with someone, why is there no way to change your last name to your partner's last name or vice versa? I understand it would be a pain if there's a lot of broken partnerships and such, but if you're partnered with your RL husband or longtime boyfriend or something, and the names could then revert back to whatever they were before the partnership was made, if ever it were broken up... I just think there should be an option to share a last name with one's partner, even if it means paying a bit more for the partnership.

As it exists today: traditionally, it's been this way (can't change names) since the start of SL. But we recognize how much demand there is to change names. While we haven't agreed on a policy to do so, we do agree that there should be action, and moves made towards greater flexibility.

There was actually a meeting held recently about changing and creating last names... you can see the transcript... and a very big thread with feedback, if you'd like to share your thoughts there too.

I hope in closer or during the summer, we'll have some headway towards this.
