easy in world map question

hey i got a quick and easy question for u, well, i think it is.

what hieght is the in world map picture taken at? i see people put images above thier buildings to show up on the map, but we have some tall buildings, and if i did that it would be very high. is their a set hieght that the pictures are taken at or that the objects will still show up at? thanks
