Changes to Name and Data Field Behavior?

Why were changes made to the behaviour of the nearly all SL name and data Fields?

Previous to this update, a name or data field, such as the Edit Window Name field would allow you to easily scroll through the text in the field by a simple mouse sweep and drag. When the mouse got to the end of the field, the text would scroll for as long as the mouse was held at the end of the field or until the end of text was reached.

Now all name and data fields I have tested behave in a very different manner that is making content creation a nightmare. When I sweep to the end of the field now, the cursor stops dead at the end of the field. It does not scroll the text any longer and the only way now to reach text that is not currently displayed in the field window is to use the arrow keys (which I have never used in my life) to arrow to the end of the field at which time the text doesn't scroll, but "jumps" to some preset tab position further along the text. This is monsterously counter intuitive, time consuming and makes what is already the most boring and tedious aspect of content creation (Setting Name and Descriptions) ten times more tedious and frustrating than before.

Is this huge jump backwards in ease of use and functionality a bug? And if so, when can we expect it to be fixed?
