Are sit targets stored in objects dependable?

Can I count on a sit target that's set by a script and then the script erased to work permanently? It's clear they work in the short term, I want to know what conditions would clear them.

I explained in another thread why I want to do this.

Sit targets are parameters of an object, the same as the size, shape, color etc. The sit target data is as permanant as any of these other features. They will be cleared if another script sets a sit target.
