Something strange...
I just went to create an account and while filling in the information I noticed that a name was already filled in to the referral box. You know the space where it asks who referred you so that person can get a bonus if you go to premium. Well the name that was already showing in the referral box was not someone I've ever met much less been referred by and is not a person employed by LL. I did not go through any links created by this person either, I went through the regular sign up page.
If I hadn't been aware of the process enough to notice, it would have gone through automatically and she would have recieved a bonus if I went to premium.
I know I'm not allowed to say the person's full name but the last name is Bailly so clearly not a Linden.
How is it that this happened and does it happen a lot?

Still waiting on referral issue.....

Since I'm still awaiting an answer on this question.... /invalid_link.htmlI did a test and the same thing happened. Please take a look at newly created accounts and you can see I just created one named testaccount Alfa and I let the referral name go through this time so you can see that the system shows this person with the last name Bailley supposedly referred me but in fact she did not. Why is this person's name being automatically inserted into the referral box for new accounts registering?

I can't be sure unless we have a reproduction for how you did it, Allana. I still think it's likely you clicked on a link somewhere in the past and the settings stuck--so when you went back to the signup page, perhaps on a different day, the name was retained. No, it doesn't happen a lot, and of course, you always have the option of erasing or changing your referrer.
If you clear your web browser's cookies, it should freshen all that up and blank the referral form.
