He likely didn't hit "update" after cancelling the auto-renew. If you hit OK and not "update", the client takes that to mean "cancel all these changes, and revert it to the way it was".
I lost 5000L to this bug and after multiple emails to support and this forum, I never saw any of my money again. Support didn't even answer my emails.
Yes, I'm still a little sore about that.
