Self-Defense - How much is acceptable?

How far is too far?

If I am being consistently griefed, shot at, caged and orbited, and the Lindens are either slow to respond or don't respond at all to repeated AR reports, what is an acceptable level of response?

Is orbiting a person going too far, especially if you have banned them from your land and they insist on continuing to shoot from the sides?

Will I be banned for taking matters into my own hands after Lindens have failed to?

This is not happening to me, but to a friend. I find it unacceptable that she hasn't had a single finger lifted to help her.

Figure it out, Lindens. If you don't take care of your TOS-abiding, land-owning populace, you'll get two things:

Pissed off landowners who shoot to orbit.
Fewer landowners, as people leave in disgust at being unable to play due to constant griefing.

Any answers to this would be appreciated... and actual results, too, naturally.

Holy crap... what a rush... just had a weird "only in Second Life" moment. I parked my tush in Da Boom and was looking back and forth from my web browser window to SL, and all of a sudden, a giant wave came and steamrolled me flat, squashing me against a mountain! I was like, "WHERE THE HECK DID THAT COME FROM?" I just checked the owner of the wave (created by Starax Statosky) and it's you! Exciting!

Anyhoo, simple thing I like to do: set my land to damage and get out my guns and blast away. If you want to deal deadliness on your own land, that's what disabling the Safe (no damage) checkbox is good for.

Also, you may have already known this--pardon if you do--but sitting down (on a cube, on a chair, etc.) is highly underrated, and negates all pushes. No orbiting (thanks to Bel Muse for coining that term).

It totally sucks your friend has gone through this. While I haven't seen the situation through her eyes to get a better understanding, if she hasn't already, she should let a Linden Liaison know of each and every occurrence--document it all, especially if it's greefing by the same individuals, as repeated disciplinary violations get scaled up in seriousness--and stress the details.

I can't say that enough, because all too often there's Resis going "I got attacked a bunch of times!" and not more to go on, so it's difficult for us to follow up on. But there's the rare (and I wish they weren't so rare) gems that come in with all the info that's needed for a useful investigation so that the Assault that's happening will STOP.

Orbiting in retaliation just muddles things up: someone else can point the finger and say "You shot me too!" Best to have a clean line of sight and show you are in the right.
