Following up on Kelly's response to Doc Nielsen's question...

Doc listed a number of problems with 1.10 other than crashes. Kelly only responded to the crashes. What about the significant performance problems on older (but allegedly supported) video cards with the new shaders? My FPS went through the floor from 1.9.1.13 to 1.9.1.16 in the preview grid, and while they got better they never got up to half the rate I was getting with 1.9.0. Doc's problems have been similar.

I eventually upgraded to a more recent video card, after new and even beta drivers didn't fix the problems. That's a hard option for people with more limited means, and not an option for laptops. Is there any hope, or are the real minimum requirements now something like:

AMD Athlon/Sempron 2600+ or Intel P4/Celeron 2GHz or better
nVidia 6600, 7300, or better
1GB RAM...

Again, the best method is to send in bug reports either from the Help menu, Report Bug tool in the client or directly to bugs@secondlife.com

I am curious about the frame rates that people are reporting as cut in half.

One thing to keep in mind is that 1.10 reset all graphics options, because many of them changed meaning, at least subtly. If you are reporting a significant drop in your frame rate are you using the settings that were recommended when 1.10 first loaded? Or did you do what I did, and go in and enable everything? Or at least everything I thought should be enabled? It is true, some minimum spec machines will not be able to turn on all features. They may not be able to use vertex shaders or hardware lights or other features. It is also possible we improperly detect the capabilities of some cards, leaving options enabled that shouldn't be. Unfortunately OpenGL is somewhat lacking in it's capability reporting for video cards.

If you are experiencing a significant drop in frame rate, please do submit a bug report. Include the graphics options you have selected, particularly any variation from the default recommended or if there is no deviation. If disabling specific features gives significant improvement in frame rate - back the range of pre 1.10? - let us know that too. This is the kind of information that can help us track down where the problems are so we can fix them.
