replication attacks: cookies the answer?

A very smart user suggested to me last night that LL might want to implement some sort of cookie-like solution to help in the id-ing of griefers. gridcrashers, and general miscreants.

Is this something LL already does (if you can tell me) and if not, is it something worth considering?

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm not sure if we use cookie-like technology in-world, but we do have several different ways to identify accounts.
