Let me preface this by saying that I am not one of those people who runs around screaming "O my g0dZ0rz, I couldn't log on this morning and I lost a shoe from my inventory and I PAY FOR THIS SERVICE and I couldn't meet my friend and YOU OWE ME A BILLION LINDENS!"
I accept that SL is an inherently unstable development platform, and that in a given month, there will be a certain amount of scheduled down time and unscheduled outage. I am happy to roll this into the $195 a month I pay for the sim that houses my businesses, as a general cost of doing business in SL.
However, 24 hours ago I posted a classified ad for a not-inconsiderable amount of real life money - slightly over 6K, or more than $20US. Classified ads run for a week, so that's a cost of approximately $3US a day. Except that for the last 24 hours, Classifieds have not really been delivered - the Search feature is on and off line, and when it is up, teleports have been up and down, and the sims the Classified listings themselves point to have been on and offline.
Obviously, I'm not having a cow about $3. But I am curious about what LL's policy is with regard to Classifieds. There are people who spend much more than I do - 50K or more - on an ad for a seven day run, and it seems to me that if the service paid for is not being delivered as expected for an entire 24 hour period, there should be some kind of extension or credit system.
Please understand that my issue is not with lost sales due to down time - that happens, and over the course of a month, it all evens out. It is specifically about the fact that when SL is up, an additional service for which businesses are effectively paying LL on a per diem basis isn't being delivered.
Is this something you folks can give some thought to?
Thanks.

Classifieds refunded?
11-30-2006 17:21
I didn't but I know others did, spent money on classifieds. Any chance you are going to refund or reimburse those clients somehow, since it was your fault that the update was so bad that search had to be shut down?

Lindens say classifieds are fixed - they are *NOT* - PLEASE fix the classifieds?
11-30-2006 20:25
I have many classifieds on ranging in price from 50L$ to 5100L$. Only two 50L$ classifieds are showing. I have contacted a Linden via Live Help and they are saying that the classifieds are fixed. They are NOT fixed. Although they can see ads showing there are a great many missing. I have cleared cache, relogged etc.. to no avail. i would appreciate that this is fixed asap. We are paying L$ for this, if our ads were running via RL anything and they failed to show, print whatever they most certainly would be offering a refund etc. Not very amused.

Classifieds only searching on title
11-30-2006 21:40
When you search in the classified tab, you only get classifieds with titles that match your search.
I didn't see anything in the release notes regarding this new functionality. Is this how it's going to work from now on?
Please let us know.
Cheers,
Iron.

Several important Classified issues here, I've merged them. (1) Re: Classified refund policy, I don't currently know of one; in the meantime please contact billing@secondlife.com specifically to inquire. I'll let them know about your concerns too. (2) Earlier search being down did affect stuff being found — or rather, not found. However... (3) "Classifieds only searching on title" does *not* sound like correct behavior. I'll ask Lindens in the know for more info about these and post back here when I have an update. As always, thanks for your patience.

[UPDATE] Thanx to Phoenix, found out that *yes*, in the midst of recent database load changes, Search functionality was tweaked. This includes: * classifieds searches use name prefix matching instead of word in name or word in description * group member titles are no longer part of the search * group name searches use prefix matching * groups are not retuned in any particular sort order * event searches only use name prefix matching instead of word in name or word in description Tentatively, we're open to changing some of this back, but we need to figure out first what's the root of the problems. Hope this helps! [ANOTHER UPDATE] I confirmed we don't have a classified refund policy. It's conceivable what should be done is, as an idea, extend the classified listing for the time missed (or something similar). We don't have a way to do this at present but will continue to think about how it might be implemented.
