It used to be that the calling cards I have would light up white when that person was online. Now they don't..or only the ones on the friends list do. I noticed this last night when an old friend got in touch with me, IM'ing me even though they didn't know whether or not I was online, and I've noticed this too. I thought for a moment that maybe this was normal behavior, only to light white if they are on your friends list, but this makes no sense, as you don't need another notifier for friends, the friends list handles that fine. I checked the friend I was IM'ing with, and her profile -also-!! showed that she was not online...clearly wrong. So now I can't trust the calling cards or even the profiles.....what's up with this?

Callingcards used to be the end-all be-all of keeping connected to your friends. They were replaced by Friendships however, and now are really *only* a quick reference to that person's profile.
Friendships are where it is at. They are the key to being informed when your friends are online or offline and who shows up in your IM window.
