Can I refer a friend via e-mail or a link?

Sometimes using the referal page on SL is inconvenient.

I read another post on this topic and it sounded like all I really need to do is make sure the friend puts my name in as referer when they sign up. Is that true?


BTW it would be very easy to set up the join page such that it has a block for the referers name on it and the refers name could be read from the link.
