Why are virtually all the anti-griefing tools only for land owners?

Why are virtually all the anti-griefing tools only for land owners? Why is virtually NOTHING being offered to protect individuals who are not, at that moment, standing on their own personally paid-for piece of real estate?

Why are individuals left at the mercy of whatever protections the land owner, or Linden Labs, in the case of "protected land", has decided to enforce on their land?

Why is there virtually no way to know what parcels are safe to travel through, and which are potential shooting galleries? No, the 'damaged enabled' flag isn't the answer. Not when I can't see the property line, and some sort of indication that if I take another step, I'm in damage enabled land. Not when any idiot can still take a weapon onto land that is NOT 'damage enabled', and harm me with impunity. Yes, I consider being blasted right out of the sim just as harmful as being 'shot' in a damage zone and forcibly being teleported home. More harmful, really, as it is not consented to even by implication.

I don't want to be a prisoner on a tiny parcel of land that I own. I don't want to be forced to pay over a thousand US Dollars to buy a private island, and to pay hundreds of dollars per month to maintain it, just so I can wall it off from everyone but trusted friends, and hide from the chaos outside my 'bomb shelter'.

I want to be able to explore, and shop, and enjoy public events, and go to clubs - without being afraid of being blasted right out of the game by some moron with an hours-old, completely disposable free account and a free nuke rezzer.

I joined SL to create, and to roleplay, and to enjoy the company of others.

I did not join SL to be somebody's live target.

Why is Linden Labs so unresponsive to the screams of anguish from it's users? Why can't you at least TRY to offer some rational means of defense for individuals?

Please. We can't all afford to own our own islands. We don't want to be trapped in our homes, afraid to move.

Do we?

INDIVIDUALS need:

* To be able to be immune to push attacks, no matter WHOSE land they are on. Activating that immunity should also make it impossible for them, or their owned items, to CAUSE push effects, unless explicitly consented to.

* To be able to consent to push effects on a case-by-case basis, so they can use an elevator or a vehicle, while remaining immune to attacks. It should be possible to script a vehicle or an elevator so that when you agree to get in or when you activate the controls, it gets permission to use Push on you as needed. (If you've opted out of push).

* To be able to ban another individual from being able to affect them in any way, regardless of where they are in relation to each other. As with opting out of Push, if they can't affect you, you can't affect them, either.

* To be able to see that a parcel or a sim is damage-enabled or push-enabled BEFORE ENTERING THE PARCEL. Have an option in 'view', just like for seeing land owners, that will highlight damage-enabled parcels in red, push-enabled ones in yellow, and no-damage/no-push parcels in green, or something similar. I want to know the minefield or free-fire zone is there BEFORE it explodes under my feet.

Ceera: I remember in There, I could turn on a "force field" which stopped me from getting bounced by buggies. So, per-avatar basis as opposed to per-parcel.

On the internal project file for this, the discussion did come up and I made a suggestion for per-avatar non-push controls, but further progress hasn't been made on that.

I'm going to ask some of the experts on this and see why this might be--I don't know if it's too hard or what else I may be missing, but it's certainly worth asking. I'll post back here when I do find out something.
