Today more than 2.5 million L$ were dumped on the market at 300L/$1. This amounts to $3.33/1kL, or a full 20% below Linden Lab's stated "Target" price.
Shouldn't a "target" price be more of a mean than an outlier?
Does Linden Lab have any point where the L$ rises to where it considers, "Gee, maybe we need to take some action soon to fix the economy"?
Side-question: Can we see a chart of available land vs. price of the L$? There's a glut of land available, maybe Linden Lab should stop making new servers for first land, and start buying up mainland plots with its own money to convert to first land, instead?

I don't know the answer, so I'm going to inquire further about this.

The LindeX is an open market, without regulations in terms of how much can be sold or at what price. We match buyers and sellers, but don't set pricing because we prefer to manage through money supply. That said, I can look into whether we should set some limits on the percent of currency that can be traded in a given day or time.
With respect to land, here are the recent stats for total land sold by month, with average price per meter paid.
Current Inventory of Land for Sale Owners 709 Parcels 4,719 Acres for Sale 1,692.66 Avg. Asking Price (L$) Per Square Meter L$7
Recent Sales History-Monthly Avg. L$ Paid Per Square Meter Month/ Total Acres Sold/ Avg L$ Paid Per Square Meter March 2006 MTD 2,895 6.07 Feb-06 3,638 5.9 Jan-06 4,106 5.67 Dec-05 3,219 5.52 Nov-05 3,309 5.7 Oct-05 3,056 5.24
As far as putting up new regions - We used to try to anticipate demand and put them up in advance. Now we only put new sims up for sale when the old ones have sold through at auction.
