In a recent message, a bloke wrote "For $9.99 I get a verified account and before LL can shut me down I can do several grid attacks."

Which means your grid attacks or whatever other mischeif will cost you up to $25.00: $10 for the account, and $6 to $15 fee on top of that for a debit card that can be activated for the Internet: the cheap ones require a name and address and block addresses that are used too often (twice, in some cases, is too often, according to the blurb on the back of the card).

That's infinitely more expensive than the $0.00 it costs right now.

Please, Lindens, at least consider some kind of sponsorship scheme for full access to the grid. Unsponsored and unpaid accounts can be kept on a limited grid, similar to the teen grid, until someone who *isn't* anonymous takes responsibility for them.
