This policy... I have NO idea why it should be here.
To me, it seems that it protects scam artists and griefers more than those who actually need it.
For example, I've been in a month-long dispute with one vendor and two business owners over losses caused by the asset server problems on March 23rd. Only one business owner has even been REMOTELY interested in working with me on obtaining replacements, and only AFTER having sent back the parts of his product I didn't lose, and being told I could buy the replacements at half price. The other told me to either pay up in full for another set or piss off*, and the vendor owner hasn't even gotten back to me.
I feel absolutely ripped off, and I want to tell everyone in SL about this, and where better than the forums? Oh, that's right. I can't. I'd have to give names. Because I can't warn others about these problems, they're free to screw other people over with their poor service.
So tell me, Lindens, why must this absolutely bizarre policy remain in effect? What good can actually come from this?
* Not his exact words, but the sentiment is reflected.

Ah, Tiberius: I asked about near the start of my Second Life. Indeed, there are more related posts and discussion to this you may wish to search for, for a fuller history context--including the threads which were locked for "naming names". At first, it sounds like a childish thing: "We're grownups, we don't need to be scolded for calling out another person!" but if that's true, why so many ugly disputes which follow, and predictably lead into personal attacks, flaming, etc.? Threads "naming names" hardly tend to be civil or a discussion of productive ideas. More than the "two sides to every story", often it becomes a hideous, rancid Wrestlemania match with a lot of dirt flung around and supposed "facts" which cannot be authenticated. And, yes, another dead thread because it failed to make good on contributing positively to the community. This being said, I'm for consumer advocacy. I've wanted to see better ways of doing business, especially with contractual obligations and such. While we don't have those types of systems in place in the present, one very simple thing which I'd like to see open up: 3rd-party forums, which we're making more visible. You may find a growing number to post on under Resident-Run Websites. And the ones I know of have "looser" moderation. I verily hope that 3rd-party forums grow massive; that diversity of choice is sorely needed. Sorry to hear of your damn frustrating grievances and I hope for an amicable resolution for all involved!
