Woots! Will SL be taking advantage of this newer version of MONO for scripting? http://www.linux-watch.com/news/NS9711352426.htmlThis thing includes IKVM, a JAVA virtual machine for MONO! We can run JAVA code on MONO. Will we be able to run JAVA in SL? psst: JAVA is open source, now! Wootage!

Wewtage indeed. Congratulations to the Mono team on their new release. Long term this means that we'll potentially be able to use advanced .NET features like generics in SL, but in the short term (running LSL on the Mono VM) it doesn't change things much. IKVM is a very cool technology, but I doubt we'll be incorporating it in to SL any time soon. Embedding one VM and framework is quite enough work at the moment, thanks. That pretty much sums up my attitude to Java too, although it's very good that it's properly open source now. I'm sure open source Java will drive further improvements to Mono.
