With the changes to the group tools, I was hoping that now that the power to change media URLs is now granularized, that an object owned my someone that has this ability would inherit the ability, thus eliminating the need to deed media changing objects to the group. This hasn't changed though, wondering if it ever will be?

This hasn't been asked about a lot, Dnel--I haven't heard of plans to change this specifically. However, within the new Group Abilities, there *is*:
Change music & media settings
which you can see in the Group Information window > Members & Roles tab > Abilities sub-tab.
This can be done regardless of whether an object is set to group--it's accessed directly from About Land > Media tab.
