From: beez Linden Because the client software upgrade fixes a number of crashes that have been affecting many Residents, we've decided to make the upgrade mandatory. The new client software will post around 12 Noon SLT, Wednesday, June 7. Why? Seriously, why? Nothing I can see in the changelog is as grave as to justify a *mandatory* update of the viewer software. If people crash, they can update and will do so. This is no real problem. As for me, I rarely crash under WINE/cedega with the current client, so I'd rather not update, unless I really need to - never change a running system. I can only imagine there's some client bug that can cause corruption or security problems server.side, but I don't see anything of that mentioned in the changelog. So I assume, there is none. Then, *why* are you marking this update as *mandatory*? I think, we've been throuh this before, and we're still waiting for an answer to that

Hello Zi! Answer: for simplicity. There've been many times in the past where I've seen a Resident crashing, and even with an optional update that would address those crashes (as we'd later find out), they couldn't be bothered to update. They didn't want to take the time to come read the Release Notes either. Sounds like it should be obvious, but for the non-tech-savvy, especially, it can't be made easy enough. And with the heat we've been feeling from the crashing issues, it's OH-SO IMPORTANT they be slammed down. Technical Issues can't go up in flames! So, if everyone's at the newest version 'cuz they *have* to be, noone misses out on the latest fixes. Plus! That new inbox is too nifty to hold back... I'm paraphrasing beez here. It addresses such a PITA I come across in the community on a daily basis.
