This is related to (but maybe expanding on) the 'dark water' post.... the look of ripple water has changed in 1.9, and not for the better. As mentioned in the other post, it's now much too dark at night; but it's also much too bright during the day.

I used 'force sun' the other day to make it noon, and the water surface was so bright I could hardly look at it... it looked like overexposed film. I couldn't see the ripples at all, and the only way I could get rid of the extreme brightness was to turn off ripple water entirely.

When ripple water was first implemented, it looked wonderful... now, every time it's been changed, it's gotten worse. I for one am more than happy to sacrifice a few FPS in order to have the water look good again... can it be restored to the way it used to be, and if not, can the extreme brightness at least be fixed?

I'll let Runitai know about this as well... I have noticed it is far more bright than the previous, almost cobalt lushness.

Actually, this got me thinking of different water colors for different places. ;)

Over exposed film look with no visible ripples sounds like your graphics card driver mangled the shader somehow. Indeed, the water should now be darker than it used to be in almost every lighting situation. The shaders are currently being ported to a new shading language that's built into OpenGL (GLSL). This should minimize the compatibility problems we've been seeing, particularly on newer ATI cards.
