I've just been reading the Police blotter and was appauled to see some of the action taken. Things like suspending someone for three days because they're stealing. A warning given to someone intercepting payments etc. These are serious charges in the real world, yet they seem OK in SL.
Then it hit me. What can you possibly do about it? Afterall, if anyone is banned etc, they'll just go ahead and create another free account. This REALLY has to stop. There is no reason to behave for the most part, you try to get away with something, and if it fails and you get banned permanently (something I haven't seen so far) you would just create an alt. Or if you do get suspended, create an alt until the suspension lapses.
The other day I reported a 12 year old talking to me in a mature sim. He told me he'd watched Beavis & Butthead when he was 4, as defence that he was mature. Then he told me that he called his dad an @$$hole at 3. What was worse was that he was using his uncles alt, who had suggested he go in there. What will come of this? At worse he'll be sent to the teen grid, and his uncle will get a slapped wrist, and he'll create a new user and make sure he doesn't let on his age and he'll be back. bring back verification and do us all a favour. I can't believe that anyone thinks it's a good idea to leave SL open anymore.
To all you guys who live in countries that don't allow you to get verified for whatever reason, I'm sorry, boo hoo, openning up SL has made it a worse place for the rest of us and although it may be the minority, the only way to cut these people out os to shut down open access. You know it's the case, do it !
