Bruce Sterling's musings on the future of objects:
http://www.boingboing.net/images/blobjects.htm

Which got me to thinkin that SL objects are already SPIMES. Which got me to wonderin, how about if we embrace the SPIMEness of SL objects and allow our objects to show more info on themselves?

Objects already expose their CREATED BY and OWNED BY data. I imagine that objects contain more data that isn't currently exposed. Could objects be opened to display more of their data?

How about a REZZED BY field? That could be useful. How about some HISTORY that shows a record of who has owned the object, where it has been, etc?

Do you see where I'm goin with this?

It's really cool. And I dig the cyberpunk vibe. We did have some internal discussions on this, including talk of showing "a chain of creators/owners" or at least a more hierarchical view of displaying object metadata. No firm plans to do this, and I don't think we keep ready dates of when objects are rezzed (e.g., would be a nice way to find out what are the oldest objects on the grid)... but... it's very much in our consciousness.
