While I can understand the reason for regular Bug Fixes, its seems that much of the downtime is for the introduction of "new features" which are in fact, just changes to existing features. For example, the changing of the Tab key behaviour, and the Enter key behaviour. As has been mentioned before, Shout no longer works by pressing CTRL+ENTER and ENTER doesn't bring up Chat any more (depending on where the focus is). I still can't see the point of the so-called gestural pie menu (I still have to click - sure it's a right click rather than left, but so what?)
The way we (humans) tend to learn is by repetition - after a while the patterns we learn become automatic and we don't think consciously about what we're doing to achieve what we want. If the same methods that we're used to give us entirely differernt results, then it's no wonder we become frustrated and angry!
Imagine if all the car manufacturers in the world decided to switch the pedals around, or Microsoft decided that the default behaviour for a mouse should change so that moving it right moved the cursor left. Or the usual panic button on a train was changed to order coffee instead? - This is what LL are doing when it changes (for no good reason as far as I can tell) the behaviour of controls that we've all become used to.
Now I'm not saying that everything should be fixed in stone, and unchanging - sure we need progress, but I read a recent review of SL which cited the main drawback as "difficult for newbies to learn". With these barely announced changes (I've not seen any documentation which states that Ctrl + Enter doesn't work any more, for example), we're all being forced back to the beginning and having to relearn the basics.
Please think more carefully about the implications of making changes to the interface, especially if those changes offer little or no improvement to the SL experience for us residents.

**EDIT** And if you insist on introducing new "features" that nobody asked for at least either make them consistent, or issue comprehensive instructions - SL is a nightmare at the moment due to the focus (or whatever) being taken by whatever and resulting in the scroll wheel not working, keyboard shortcuts not working and even buttons on panels not working. And clothing isn't rezzing properly. And attachments are taking 2 minutes to attach. I'm sure it will all be sorted out by Tueday, but then..... (see above!).

Unfortunately due to time constraints, I'm unable to reply to all points--similar concerns you have to Haravikk's:

I am investigating some of the issues you mention.

Some UI behaviors in SL were nonstandard and quite odd compared to other applications. We're working on ameliorating that.

Ctrl-\ will now focus on the last speaker/object.

Ctrl-Enter not working for Shouting is a bug.

I'm gonna DIVE in more! Have no fear!
