Fair use only applies if you bought/own the item in question, like music CDs, where you make a mix CD out of several of the tracks. You bought the item and own it so you can do that sort of thig. THAT is fair use. When someone goes around and STEALS items WITHOUT buying them with the intention of COPYING them for resale, that is NOT fair use, that is THEFT!

Fair use can apply to items you did not buy, like copying pages from library books for a research paper or recording public television for a class discussion.
