My suggestion is to have a "reset to defaults" type button added to the preferences / chat / color customization screen (and any other screen that doesn't already have one) in case this comes up again in a future release.

This might eliminate the need to restart if you're on a good camping pad/chair and don't want to leave yet.

That is a fantastic and glaringly obvious suggestion. What is surprising is I can't find this in our list of things to do! GOSH IT SHOULD BE. Okay I'll include it and I'm sure it'll come up in the Resident Experience team's (newly-formed to make your Second Life easier) discussions.
