Here's my post from SL Homepage Forums. Since you all do not read 3rd party forums, we have to push this content to you here so that you are aware of what's going on:

I think SL is being hindered by its own residents and pre-existing content. If they could get rid of us all, and all of our creations and land and crap, SL probably could start using much more advanced technology.

So this brings us to a question. If LL came to us today and said, we can give you:
Realistic terrain
Realistic water
Realistic weather(that does not rain or snow through builds)
Realistic light
Better terraforming tools
Better user permissions on objects
Partial mod enable on objects (you can not change the prim but you can retexture certain faces of it -- think reupholstering a couch)
Freebie setting on prims and objects that disable resale
Watermarking for textures to prevent theft
A better particle system
Incredible vehicle physics
Improved object physics
Offline editing tools
Offline private sim capability (given you have the hardware)
Open source UI and sections of code
Avatar mesh imrovements
Avatar attachment improvements

And you can keep the following:
Your linden dollar balance
User land retained but relocated
Rough replica of the original topography of the sims
Rough representations of the original sim layout
Your Avatar Name and info.
Your Friends list
Textures in your inventory
Groups and info about groups
Group land retained but relocated

Here's what you will lose:
All avatar modifications including skins, attachments, animations
All objects created and purchased
All old objects using physics
All old objects using particles
And finally ahem all builds. There might be a pathway to convert old objects to the new engine's language. Maybe.

AND because this is a major transition, all registered users (who own less than 4 sims) are given 2 free months with no land fees and no user fees.


The old grid will be held up and running for 6 months but there will be no Linden transactions ie:
No land purchasing
No land selling
No object purchases
No object sales
Edit tools available but no new prims may be created
No terraform
No music stream
No push throughout the grid.
Sandboxes, and public linden sims will go offline as soon as their counterparts are available in the new grid

Would you all opt for this?
