Someone asked about this so I am asking for an official Linden answer here.
What is the Home location for a brand new user?
It seems to me that it should be Orientation or Help Island.
The person asking was unhappy because they teleported home and got sent off Orientation Island, never to return.

For now the home location for new residents is set to the welcome area, so once they teleport home, they can't return to HI. They can then change it to any Linden location, for example an infohub, or any land that they purchase.
We are planning to make some changes to the way that help island is working. It seems to be making a significant difference in helping new residents get acclimated, so we're looking at making the stay on HI longer for those who want it.
